Mr. Snell, born in the Bronx, began as a painter over seventy years ago. His unique blend of color and movement combine to create dynamic and energetic works of art. In the early sixties, Hy turned his focus to metal sculptures. In a unique process, Hy created flowing works by cutting and welding scrap pieces of brass and copper. Over a forty year span, Hy produced beautiful dancers, majestic horses, and amazing abstracts that have found homes in hundreds of spaces. His work has been shown in countless galleries in several states, and has been on exhibit in the Schacknow Museum of Fine Art in Florida. Mr. Snells vision became impaired in 2002 and sadly he could not operate the tools needed to create his sculptures. His enthusiasm for his art could not be suppressed and Hy renewed his love of painting. Hy has since concentrated on vibrant abstracts which contain both elements of his past style and of new ideas he developed. Mr. Snell now resides in Cleveland and he continues to express his life experiences through his paintings. |
